CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston family is grieving the sudden loss of their 80-year-old father, who was hit and killed while crossing the street last Friday.
Police said Richard Viti, of Cranston, was on his way to the San Bernardo Men’s Society off Atwood Avenue when he was struck — a tradition his children said he looked forward to each week.
“He was on his way to doing something that he loved to do. He went there every Friday night. He would sit and have food and drinks and play cards,” the victim’s son, Richard J. Viti, said.

Among the broken glass and debris scattered across the roadway lay his hat. As a proud Vietnam War veteran, his family said he hardly ever took it off.
“Whether it was shopping or whatever, people would always thank him for his service and would make him fill up every single time,” Richard added. “He loved the fact that he was recognized for his service and he was very happy to do so.”…
