A coalition of nonprofits that serve the homeless population, including two Rhode Island organizations, are suing Department of Housing and Urban Development over massive cuts to funding for homelessness programs and a shift away from providing permanent housing in its Continuum of Care grants.
Crossroads Rhode Island the Youth Pride Inc., both based in Providence, filed the lawsuit in Rhode Island District Court on Dec. 1. That follows a similar lawsuit, making similar arguments, filed by 21 states, including Rhode Island, on Nov. 25. Providers warned about what the cuts will mean for their organizations during a news conference on Nov. 21.
