Fire breaks out at vacant Providence home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a vacant house caught fire in Providence on Monday afternoon.

Providence Fire Deputy Chief Robert Butler told 12 News that firefighters were called to the Florence Street home around 4:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves and found a fire burning in a back room. There was significant water and fire damage to that room, but the flames were contained there. It took about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control…
