RI Blood Center seeking donations to bolster supply after deadly Brown shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) is seeking donors after a shooting at Brown University killed two students and injured nine others Saturday afternoon.

“We are devastated by the news of the mass shooting in our community, and our thoughts are with all those impacted — the victims, their loved ones, and the first responders,” RIBC said in a statement. “In response, we have been asked to provide additional blood units to local hospitals to support patient care during this emergency.”

The RIBC is asking for donations of all blood types, but is especially requesting types O negative and O positive, which are vital for trauma care in emergency situations.
