Security company for Brown University responds to custodian’s account

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A third-party security vendor for Brown University is responding after a campus custodian said he reported a suspicious person to them weeks before a deadly shooting that claimed two lives and injured nine others.

Derek Lisi, a custodian at Brown University, said he remembers seeing the gunman multiple times before the Dec. 13 attack, scoping out the areas in and around the Barus and Holley building. Lisi said he warned Event Staff Services LLC several times and on one occasion a staff member told him they were only there to cover an event.

“Something kept telling me, ‘Don’t ignore it. Don’t ignore it,’” Lisi said in an interview on Monday.
