Local leaders condemn deadly shooting in Minneapolis by ICE agent

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island and Massachusetts leaders are speaking out against the deadly shooting of a woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer that happened Wednesday morning in Minneapolis.

Renee Nicole Macklin, 37, has been identified as the woman who was killed. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement that Macklin attempted to run over ICE officers “in an attempt to kill them.”

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots,” the DHS statement continued.
