McKee announces four judicial nominations

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Gov. Dan McKee announced his nominations to fill four vacancies in state courts on Friday.

Former R.I. Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey was nominated by McKee for a judgeship in the state District Court. The selection fills a vacancy left by Judge Melissa DuBose, who was nominated by then-President Joe Biden in 2024 to serve in the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island.

McCaffrey’s nomination has drawn criticism because of how he voted as a senator on issues like same-sex marriage and abortion rights. His previous favorable ratings by the National Rifle Association were also pointed out by critics…
