Charter bus that caught fire on I-95 was going to MA during CT travel ban, official says

DARIEN — A charter bus that caught fire on Interstate 95 was on its way to Massachusetts with dozens of people on board amid a travel ban on Connecticut’s highways during Sunday’s major snowstorm.

There were 55 passengers and a driver aboard the DATTCO bus, Darien First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky said Monday. He said six people were sent to the hospital. Connecticut State Police had said Sunday that five people went to the hospital. Zagrodzky said it was not clear how many people’s injuries were caused by the fire.

It was also unclear Monday why the bus was on the highway during the travel ban. Gov. Ned Lamont issued a travel ban on commercial vehicles on Connecticut’s highways that started at noon Sunday and was in effect until 6:30 a.m. Monday.
