JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The batteries inside thousands of E-ZPass transponders have reached the end of their life, causing a number of Rhode Islanders to receive unexpected toll bills in the mail.
Susan Hammond said that, despite having a transponder connected to her car, she received several bills from multiple states after going on a road trip last year. Those bills included hefty fines.
“Somewhere in the ballpark of $500 to $570 — it was a lot of money,” she said.
