Rapoza becomes East Providence’s permanent police chief

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The city of East Providence now has a permanent police chief for the first time in months.

Chief Michael Rapoza, who had been serving in an acting capacity since last June, was officially sowrn in by Mayor Bob DaSilva during a ceremony Tuesday.

“Policing today is not without its challenges,” Rapoza said. “Current events, heightened scrutiny, and evolving expectations require us to be better, smarter, and more unified than ever before.”…
