Lizard in a blizzard? Providence man shocked to find tegu buried under 20 inches of snow

New Englanders were expecting to shovel their driveways after last weekend’s massive winter storm crawled across the region over a span of two days, though no one was likely expecting to find anything actually crawling out from under the nearly two feet of snow that fell. But that’s just what happened to one man in Providence, Rhode Island.

The New England Wildlife Centers says it was a sight even the most snow-hardened New Englander would not expect to find — a Providence man was shoveling his driveway after the storm when a large tegu that was buried beneath nearly 20 inches of snow on one of the city’s busier streets began slowly trying to crawl out.

Shockingly (and thankfully), the nonprofit said in a Facebook post, it takes more than a couple feet of snow and a rogue reptile to rattle this Providence man, who brought the lizard inside right away and wrapped him in a t-shirt to help conserve heat…
