N.S. voters approve bond for police station renovation

NORTH SMITHFIELD – By less than 100 votes as of the early tally, North Smithfield voters have approved a bond referendum of up to $9 million to fund renovations to the building that serves as headquarters for the North Smithfield Police Department.

The news was celebrated by both town and law enforcement officials Tuesday night.

“I am very happy for the residents of our great town, and the men and women of our police department,” Town Administrator Scott Gibbs told NRI NOW.

A total of 994 residents cast a vote in the Special Election, held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, with 532 in favor of the bond authorization and 462 casting ballots against the initiative…
