PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Last month’s big snowstorm has already eaten up more than half a million dollars in Providence’s storm response budget, Target 12 has learned.
The city has spent approximately $562,660 on snow cleanup costs from the Jan. 25-26 storm as of Tuesday, according to Josh Estrella, a spokesperson for Mayor Brett Smiley. That includes more than $253,000 of staff overtime, plus nearly $310,000 for salt and sand.
The city has an overall budget of $2.2 million tied to storm response, meaning that last week’s storm has eaten up about 25% of the money allocated for the year.
