PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — While many were surprised by the announcement that Plant City would abruptly close its Providence location, the restaurant’s troubles were foreshadowed in legal disputes with its landlord over the past year.
Last month, the vegan eatery announced its waterfront location overlooking the Providence River would close to customers Feb. 8. Owner Kim Anderson blamed the Washington Bridge closure for a loss of business that made operating the restaurant untenable.
“Over the past two years, we have seen an immediate and lasting reduction in the number of guests visiting our Providence location due to the failure of the Washington Bridge,” Anderson said in a Jan. 26 statement. “Guests have told us they often reconsider plans or avoid the area due to rush hour traffic backups.”…
