The University of Rhode Island (URI) Board of Trustees voted Friday unanimously to affirm the recommendations of a special state Senate commission calling for a public medical school at the Kingston campus to help address the state’s primary care shortage.
The vote of confidence came at a regular board meeting, with one abstention from trustee Joseph F. Matthews. The vote confirmed the board’s “willingness to continue working collaboratively with the Commission and relevant stakeholders as the next phase of this work proceeds, which will focus primarily on the consideration of financial feasibility and related economic implications.”…
