Firefighters from Woonsocket rescue Chowchow trapped on thin ice

On February 13, members from the Woonsocket Police Department and the Woonsocket Fire Department rescued a missing Chowchow named Zara after she became trapped on thin ice.

Zara had been spotted on the iced over pond behind Kennedy Manor on Clinton Street.

Zara had become stuck out on the ice, and as personnel tracked the missing dog, they spotted her in a very dangerous situation. Responders used specialized equipment and “plenty of teamwork” to navigate the ice and bring the frightened dog back to solid ground.

The dog was safely returned to her owners and obviously found being warm and cuddled by Engine 2 and Rescue 1 a little bit of heaven.

Again, fire and police want to warn pet owners, no matter where they live, to never try and rescue a pet stuck on thin or breaking ice. Immediately call 911 and please … do not go out there to save the pet. There have been so many tragedies this season reported, and it is everyone’s intention to keep owners and their pets safe.

Please avoid the dangerous situations by keeping your dogs leashed.

Many thanks to the brave rescuers from the fire department. Please stop by their Facebook page and leave and leave an ‘attaboy’ for a great job…
