(WJAR) — Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Friday that a North Smithfield man was sentenced to 17 years in state prison for driving under the influence and causing a deadly crash.
According to officials, 27-year-old Nicholas Stone had been facing charges of DUI resulting in death, driving to endanger resulting in death, driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident and more.
Stone pleaded nolo contendere, meaning he accepted a conviction but did not admit guilt, to those charges, prosecutors said.
Neronha said Stone was sentenced to 17 years in prison, 25 years of probation, eight-year suspension of license upon release, 60 hours of community service and $6,100 in fines…
