List of Schools Closed Tuesday as 36 Inches of Snow Hits

A powerful nor’easter that blasted the Northeast on Sunday and Monday has forced multiple school districts to cancel classes for Tuesday as cleanup continues from heavy, wet snow, widespread power outages and dangerous travel conditions.

The storm—already responsible for blizzard conditions, extremely strong winds and snow totals exceeding 2 feet in several states—left road crews scrambling to clear buried streets and restore power ahead of the new school day. Many districts across hard‑hit areas, including communities in Rhode Island that previously shut down Monday, have extended closures into Tuesday as they contend with 36 inches of snow, downed power lines and continued travel hazards.

Although many winter storm warnings and other National Weather Service (NWS) alerts are expected to expire before school begins Tuesday morning, recovery efforts will take time. In addition to removing the excessive snowfall, AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter warned that with cold air coming in, wet spots will refreeze and worsen travel conditions across the region on Tuesday…
