Rhode Island reports second blizzard-related death

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Health is reporting that two people have now died of storm-related causes after this week’s blizzard.

Newport police confirmed on Tuesday that Joseph Boutros, a 21-year-old Salve Regina University student, died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning after he was found unresponsive in a vehicle with snow covering the exhaust pipe Monday night.

On Wednesday, Health Department spokesperson Joseph Wendelken told 12 News that he didn’t have an official cause of death for the second individual, but noted that it was “shoveling-related.”
