‘Two sets of books’: Croft School rocked by $13M hidden debt

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Croft School needs at least $5 million to stay afloat through the end of the school year after its founder allegedly concealed about $13 million in debt and kept “two sets of books,” according to school officials.

The private school’s board described the situation as “urgent and extremely serious” in a letter sent Tuesday to parents and investors.

Croft, which opened in the Wayland Square neighborhood of Providence in 2018, now operates three campuses — including two in Boston — and enrolls more than 240 kindergarten and elementary students, according to its website. The school charges about $30,000 in annual tuition for new students…
