WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Warwick police will become the first department in Rhode Island to use Flock Safety drones as an emergency first responder system, even as critics raise privacy concerns.
Warwick Police Col. Michael Lima told 12 News the city’s newest drone will be tied to the department’s records management system and can be dispatched with the touch of a button when 911 calls come through.
“The drone is going to be situated on our rooftop in an enclosed box, and when we hit that button, the box will open, the drone will come out and autonomously fly out to that scene, basically giving us an aerial view of what’s happening,” Lima said. “Which is good for our officers before they arrive on scene.”…
