Controversial unfinished mural in Providence to be taken down

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Dark Lady is no longer moving forward with a controversial mural that was being painted on the side of the building.

The popular Providence LGBTQ+ nightclub announced in a social media post Monday evening that management has made the decision to discontinue the mural and “move forward with removal as soon as possible.”

The Dark Lady had been working with artist Ian Gaudreau, who was in the process of painting the mural on the Snow Street building. The mural would have honored Iryna Zarutska — a Ukrainian refugee who was stabbed to death on a commuter train in North Carolina last summer.

The unfinished artwork has created quite the controversy in the capital city, especially since it is connected to a national mural campaign spearheaded by Intercom CEO Eoghan McCabe and Tesla CEO Elon Musk…
