The two priests who may have been buried at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton are Father Edward Sheridan and Father Daniel Hearne, according to information in a history book shared with the Gazette by the Old Colony History Museum.
Hearne served as the pastor of St. Mary’s from 1852 to 1865, according to the book. And Sheridan served as the pastor from 1871 to 1896. The book identifying the pastors is titled “All in the Family: an Informal Sketch of St. Mary’s Parish.”
As of Friday, March 27, 2026, the Diocese of Fall River was conducting a search of St. Mary’s to attempt to determine if the remains of the two priests are in fact buried there.
