Take a peek inside Rhode Island’s very own ‘Sistine Chapel’

St. Ann’s Arts and Cultural Center in Woonsocket houses the largest collection of frescoes in North America, all done by a single Italian artist.

Artist Guido Nincheri turned an unplastered church in Woonsocket into a masterpiece worthy of world renown.

Built in 1914, the church was impressive, but it was a blank canvas, with bare concrete walls, wood or plaster altars, railings and statues and no stained-glass windows. But as the parish approached the 50th anniversary of its founding, the pastor found the right man for the job, Nincheri, after seeing his work at St. Matthew’s in nearby Central Falls…
