Man acquitted of kidnapping, convicted of assault in Uber driver assault trial

(WJAR) — The man who was accused of kidnapping and assaulting an Uber driver was found not guilty of kidnapping and was convicted on some charges on Monday.

The jury found James Oakes, 26, guilty on lesser offense of felony assault and battery of a person over 60, lesser offence of felony larceny of a person over 60, and interfering with a driver.

He was also found not guilty on three other charges, which include strangulation and assault with intent to rape.
