Beginning Thursday, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will temporarily close off where Interstate 95 South connects to Route 4 in Warwick and East Greenwich on weekday mornings so crews can dig out bedrock to make way for a long-awaited highway connection.
The excavation work — expected to last approximately 10 minutes each day, Monday through Friday, between 10 and 11 a.m.— will continue for the next two months as part of the $144 million “Missing Move” project.
To get the bedrock out, RIDOT will be conducting controlled explosive demolition around the ramp to Route 4 from I-95 South at Exit 24B. The section must be closed because it is located within a safety zone surrounding the blasting area…
