URI officials encourage class of 2026 to seize opportunity

KINGSTON, R.I. — Commencement weekend 2026 at the University of Rhode Island has come and gone, a time for faculty, leaders, and students themselves to give graduates advice on their way off campus.

This year’s encouraging messages appeared to have a theme: uncertain times are where some of the most amazing opportunities can lie. That message was especially relevant for students graduating from the College of Business. Most of those future entrepreneurs, marketers, and investors will especially need to rely on getting their foot in the door. Some will rely on being at the right place at the right time, while others will fight to forge a completely new path.

Emily Raleigh knows a lot about opportunity. As a previous graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High School, she earned her degree in accounting on Friday. Along the way, she said she learned that there are countless opportunities and adventures to be had within the College of Business, let alone the university. She started off as a general business major but eventually decided to take a deep dive into the confusing but important world of taxes…
