79 cases of alpha-gal syndrome confirmed in Rhode Island as lone star ticks spread

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Eliana Russell was on a picnic with her mom, Andrea, at Colt State Park in Bristol on Sunday when she noticed a tick on their bag of food.

Andrea quickly scooped the tick up in a napkin and snapped a photo of it.

“I knew it was a lone star tick based on what I’ve read about them,” Russell said. “I figured we need to make people aware that they’re in Rhode Island.”…
