South Side High School in the Rockville Centre Union Free School District was the highest-ranked Long Island school, coming in at No. 8 statewide. Seven Long Island schools ranked among the state’s top 20, including North Shore Senior High School at No. 11, Commack High School at No. 12, Pierson Middle/High School in Sag Harbor at No. 13, Locust Valley High School at No. 14, Hauppauge High School at No. 15 and Northport Senior High School at No. 18.
But several traditionally high-performing Long Island schools tumbled in the rankings. Jericho Senior High School fell to No. 41 statewide from No. 9 last year. Great Neck South High School dropped to No. 43 from No. 21, while Manhasset Secondary School fell to No. 55 from No. 23.
The changes came as the New York State Education Department did not authorize the College Board to provide U.S. News with Advanced Placement data for this year’s rankings.
