State Sen. Michelle Hinchey (D-41) is pushing for statewide restrictions on automated license plate readers, proposing new limits on how government agencies use, retain, and share data collected by systems such as Flock Safety cameras.
The legislation would generally require license plate data to be deleted within 48 hours, restrict the sale and sharing of that information, require agencies to keep records of who accesses it, and establish public reporting requirements for government entities using the technology.
