Gang member, 16, arrested in deadly Bronx subway shooting: NYPD

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A teen gang member was arrested in the Bronx subway shooting that killed one person and injured five others on Monday, according to law enforcement sources.

The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended at his Bronx apartment at 11 a.m. Thursday, police said. The alleged D-block gang member is expected to be charged with murder, officials said.

An innocent bystander was killed in what authorities believe was a gang-related shooting that started about 4:35 p.m. on the northbound No. 4 train platform at the Mount Eden Avenue subway station, police officials said.

Obed Beltran-Sanchez, a 35-year-old Mexican immigrant, was fatally shot and five other people ranging from 14 to 71 years old were injured, according to the NYPD. The 14-year-old was the intended target of the gang beef and was arrested in a non-fatal shooting in the Bronx last month, authorities said.

Beltran-Sanchez was minding his own business when he was struck in the chest on the platform, Kenny said. The victim worked as a construction laborer.
