Uniondale mom who was in heart failure while pregnant set to celebrate 1st Mother’s Day

Megan Gomez was in her second trimester last year when she began to feel unwell.

At LIJ, the Uniondale mom-to-be found out why: she was in heart failure.

Gomez had mitral stenosis, also called mitral valve stenosis, which meant she had a narrowed heart valve and it needed to be fixed with a procedure called a mitral valve balloon valvuloplasty.

Just two days before having the procedure, Gomez got married – while in the hospital. The staff rallied around her. A pillowcase served as her veil and a white nurse’s coat acted as gown.

A few months after having the successful procedure, Gomez gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Rose, who is now 8 months old. She and her husband Jonathan celebrated their one-year anniversary, and they’re looking forward to enjoying Megan’s first Mother’s Day as a mom.
