GREENWOOD LAKE, N.J. (PIX11) — Fire crews continued battling wildfires on Sunday, including a blaze in New York and New Jersey that killed Dariel Vasquez , an 18-year-old state parks employee.
New Jersey’s state forest fire service said Sunday that the blaze — dubbed the Jennings Creek Wildfire — was threatening 25 structures, including two New Jersey homes. There have been no evacuations as of Sunday night.
Officials said Sunday that the fire encompasses 2500 acres of brush between the two states. The brush is expected to burn until at least the end of the week before it is able to be controlled.
“I don’t anticipate any New Jersey residents having to be evacuated. I assure you, we have things well in hand,” said Bill Donnelly of the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Health advisories were issued for parts of New York, including New York City, and northeastern New Jersey due to unhealthy air quality due to smoke from the fires.
