New wave of Arctic air to bring below-freezing temperatures to N.Y. this week

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Another wave of Arctic air from the north will proceed the wet weather this weekend and linger in New York for much of the week.

Conditions will take a cold turn beginning Sunday night in the wake of the weekend winter storm; temperatures will plummet from a high around 50 degrees to a low in the 20s. Gusty winds over 40 mph could contribute to this chill and make for particularly cold conditions, according to Bob Larson, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.

Monday follows after Sunday’s cold with a high in the low 30s and a low in the teens. Once again, gusty winds will play a factor and make for “feels like” temperatures in the single digits.

“It’s going to stay cold then, we believe, the rest of the week,” Larson said. “It’s not going to be cold on par with what we saw in January at times.”…
