Governor Hochul announces $85M for mental health ‘step-down’ programs in NY

Albany, NY — Governor Kathy Hochul announced the allocation of $85 million to establish five “step-down” programs aimed at assisting adults with co-occurring mental illness and intellectual or developmental disabilities in transitioning safely back into their communities after inpatient care.

The initiative, administered by the State Office of Mental Health, will provide conditional funding over five years to develop programs that integrate critical time intervention teams with transitional housing.
