Long Island Community Unites to Boost Organ Donor Registration & Save Lives

Today, Rallye Motor Company, Donate Life New York State, The Billy Moon Foundation, and local elected officials will join Long Island residents at a celebratory community event during Donate Life Month to raise awareness about the critical need for more Long Islanders to register as organ donors and save lives.

Kristina Moon, widow of former Long Island resident and fireman Billy Moon, will deliver remarks about her family’s story, amongst other mission-connected volunteers. The central event at Rallye BMW will also include a food truck, test drives of electric vehicles in anticipation of Earth Day and exciting giveaways to encourage more Long Islanders to learn about the importance of organ donation. The events being held across Rallye Motor Company dealerships underscore the company’s commitment to raising awareness on Long Island about this critical health need and increasing registered donors.

Today, more than 8,000 New Yorkers are currently on the waitlist for a life-changing organ, and roughly 400 people lose their lives each year due to a shortage of donors. While the average national registration rate is 64%, Nassau and Suffolk Counties trail far behind at 42% and 54%, respectively.
