Police: New York Man Facing Multiple Felony Charges In Route 1 Road Rage Incident

Delaware State Police have updated an incident that one of our readers told us about yesterday. Officials say they have arrested 44-year-old Donald Renfer of Chittenango, New York, in connection with a road rage incident involving a firearm that occurred on Route 1 in Dover Friday.

At approximately 3:49 p.m., troopers responded to the Wawa located at 500 Jimmy Drive in Smyrna for a reported road rage encounter. The investigation showed that the victim, a 48-year-old woman traveling with her two grandchildren, was driving northbound on Route 1 just beyond the Dover Toll Plaza when she became involved in a confrontation with the driver of a white GMC pickup truck. During the incident, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and threw a bottle at the victim’s vehicle before continuing northbound.

After the altercation, the victim pulled into the Wawa in Smyrna, where she observed the same GMC truck at the gas pumps. Troopers arrived at the location and identified the driver as Donald Renfer. He was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded black handgun and several additional magazines.
