Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) will award $86 million through its Capital Projects Fund, with a portion of the funding allocated to cultural infrastructure projects in New York City and Long Island. Among the 134 statewide recipients, notable NYC and Long Island grantees include the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance of New York in Manhattan and the Gateway Playhouse in Suffolk County.
In New York City, the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance received a Large Capital Improvement Grant for the development of a new arts and cultural center in East Harlem. The project, guided by the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan and the Community Visioning Report, will provide music education for youth, celebrate local artists, support workforce development, and promote neighborhood-based economic activity.
On Long Island, the Gateway Playhouse, home to the Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County, secured a Mid-Sized Capital Improvement Grant.
