In quiet service, a trailblazer rises: Lt. Mary Wu honored at Eng Awards

The Hon. Randall T. Eng Awards, hosted on May 14 by the Appellate Division, Second Department in Brooklyn Heights, recognized three public servants whose work reflects perseverance, public duty and quiet leadership — values that often go unnoticed in the daily churn of New York’s legal system.

Among the honorees was Lieutenant Mido Mary Wu, a longtime court officer whose nearly two decades in Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term, made her a familiar and trusted presence in one of the busiest courthouses in the state.

Wu, who began her court career as a junior analyst and recently became the first Asian American woman to attain the rank of lieutenant in the state court system, stood out not for commanding attention but for steady, selfless service.

For nearly 20 years, Wu worked in the halls of Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term. She moved through the ranks, from the Brooklyn Treatment Court to court officer, to sergeant and, just last month, to lieutenant in the Bronx Civil Court.
