New Jersey–New York Flood Watch: 3 Inches of Rain Could Swamp Roads Through 8 a.m. Saturday

Newark, N.J. – Streets from Newark to White Plains could see flash flooding overnight as a slow-moving rainstorm dumps up to 3 inches of rain across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday for northeast New Jersey and southeastern New York, including Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Westchester, and Rockland counties. Rainfall rates may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour during the heaviest bursts between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Low-lying roads, underpasses, and urban drainage zones are especially vulnerable to flooding. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roadways, particularly in areas with a history of flash flooding like Route 17 in Bergen County and Route 59 in Rockland…
