MTA’s LIRR service boost claim challenged by audit

BROOKLYN — A recent state audit disputes the MTA’s claim that LIRR service has increased by 41% since Grand Central Madison’s 2023 opening, finding only a 23% rise, the New York Post reported June 23. Nearly half the new trains were short shuttles between Brooklyn stops and Jamaica, the report found.

NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli also highlighted significant service delays and poor commuter feedback integration, although the MTA disputed the findings to the New York Post, alleging that the comptroller had discounted some additional shuttles.
