Severe thunderstorm watch hits New York with four-hour warning ahead of Fourth of July travel

A severe thunderstorm watch has hit parts of New York with inclement weather conditions ahead of a busy travel weekend for the Fourth of July holiday.

A thunderstorm with up to 40 mph winds created horrific driving conditions on Thursday for the state’s Capital District—including Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties—during morning rush hour traffic.

On Thursday at 1:32 p.m. the National Weather Service released a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10 p.m. for Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Rensselaer, Schoharie and Ulster counties…
