Severe storms eye NYC area after extreme heat pumps feels-like temps up to 107

Extreme heat returned to the tri-state area with a vengeance Friday, pumping feels-like temperatures near 110 degrees in parts of New Jersey as the entire metro area braces for afternoon humidity-fueled storms.

An extreme heat warning has been issued for parts of northeastern and central Jersey, where it could feel like 107 in the afternoon. The rest of the region is under a heat advisory, for temps feeling closer to 104 degrees. Check the latest weather alerts for your neighborhood here.

Air temperatures will threaten daily records across the region, rising into the mid and upper 90s. And that is without factoring in how much hotter the dew point will make those temperatures feel.

Dew points, the measure of moisture in the atmosphere, will hover in the 70-degree range during the day. When the dew point approaches 70, the air feels tropical. It makes it feel hotter than the actual air temperature, leading to dangerous conditions outside.

Air quality is also a concern.
