Officials urge pet owners to update rabies shots

New York health officials are encouraging pet owners to keep rabies vaccinations current amid a rise in positive cases, according to RochesterFirst.

Since last July, 364 animals across the state—excluding NYC—have tested positive, including cats in Schenectady and raccoons in Nassau County. Rabies is mainly transmitted through saliva and often found in wild mammals like skunks, foxes, and bats.
