ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — A 20-year-old Scarsdale High School graduate was freed from federal detention on Monday night, five days after immigration agents arrested her. The release of Yeonsoo Go followed a push from New York community members and elected officials demanding her release.
Go, a college student at Purdue University, was with her mother, an Episcopal priest, on a religious dependent visa since 2021. The Department of Homeland Security said that Go’s visa expired two years ago, leading to her arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin from DHS called Go an “illegal alien” who was placed in “expedited removal proceedings” to be deported quickly without a full court hearing.

“Yeonsoo’s case is yet another example of why we must fix our broken immigration system and make it easier for folks to come here and stay, the right way,” said Republican Congressmember Mike Lawler, who added that his office worked with federal officials to secure Go’s release.
