Hochul Touts Decline in Retail Theft Across New York State

Retail theft has declined by 12% in New York City and 5% across the rest of New York State following measures signed last year to crack down on those crimes. That from Governor Kathy Hochul, who highlighted those numbers during a press conference in New York City on Tuesday. She says crime data showed a significant spike crimes related to retail theft immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 as business operations began returning to normal. Hochul says the state is now on track to see those crimes drop to pre-peak levels.
