New York Blood Center (NYBC) will be hosting a day of service to honor those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks by giving back to the community. New Yorkers are encouraged to donate blood, volunteer at a blood drive, or sign up to host a blood drive at various locations across the region.
September 11th is recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and each year, communities across New York pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks through lifesaving blood donations. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors, but the past few years have brought chronic blood shortages nationwide. One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives.
“The need for blood in our community is constant, and this September 11th, we invite all eligible blood donors to roll up a sleeve or volunteer their time in remembrance of those we lost more than two decades ago,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Vice President of New York Blood Center. “It’s our responsibility as New Yorkers to come together in times of need, and following a summer of low donor turnout, this call to action is especially critical.”…
