N.Y. weather: Scattered storms, humidity to kick off fall in NYC

New Yorkers can expect a warm and potentially stormy Tuesday, with temperatures climbing into the 80s and a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The first full day of autumn will bring warmer and more humid conditions, with afternoon temperatures reaching 80-85 degrees and dew points in the 60s. The weather service warns of scattered thunderstorms developing by late afternoon, particularly in the early evening. While severe weather is not anticipated, there is a possibility of isolated storms producing strong wind gusts and brief downpours that could cause nuisance flooding in urban areas.

A pre-frontal weather system will drive the potential for thunderstorms, with the best chance of precipitation occurring northwest of Staten Island.
