Flushing-Based Dark Web Drug Ring Busted: Local Resident Among Five Convicted in $7.2 Million Cryptocurrency Operation

On October 23, 2025, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced the prosecution of a dark web drug trafficking group that laundered over $7.2 million using cryptocurrency. The group, called ‘FireBunnyUSA,’ shipped more than 10,000 packages containing illegal drugs, including cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine, from locations in New York and California to customers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Five individuals were convicted in the case: Nan Wu, Peng Peng Tang, Bowen Chen, Zixiang Lin, and Katie Montgomery. On April 3, 2025, Nan Wu, 39, pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the second degree and money laundering in the first degree. Wu received a sentence of at least 6 ½ years in state prison, five years of post-release supervision, and was ordered to forfeit about 20 bitcoin, 3,297 Monero, and $12,857 in cash.

The investigation found that FireBunnyUSA operated from January 2019 to August 2022. The group advertised on several dark web marketplaces. Wu started the operation in Flushing, Queens, and later moved some activities to Upland, California, in 2022.
