NY weather: part of New York under a high wind watch Wednesday and Thursday – winds gusting up to 60 mph

A high wind watch was released by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 12:56 p.m. valid from Wednesday 9 p.m. until Thursday 8 a.m. for Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens as well as Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Suffolk and Nassau counties.

The weather service describes, “West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.”

“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” explains the weather service. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”
